Content, content, content! It's what every Web site wants; some are willing to pay good money for it. Learn how to earn without writing; make money online as an editor.

Listen, not everyone’s cut out to be a successful online freelance writer…but that doesn’t mean work at home isn’t still possible. Got great grammatical skills? A penchant for proper punctuation? A no-holds-barred stance on the correct usage of the word there? Why not learn how to make money online as an editor? After all, doesn’t somebody have to give all that Internet content a good once-over before it’s available to everyone in the world?

Freelance Editing Jobs

Some writers specialize in informal, friendly, funny blog posts. Others might be known for their highly technical, factual tone. Web sites are always looking for something specific when they look for new content, and new writers to create that content. But editors, now they’re in demand everywhere- no specific style necessary. Freelance editing jobs give professionals a wide pool of work at home opportunities, because doesn’t every Web site want content that’s spelled correctly and presented professionally?

There are two very good ways to search for freelance editing jobs:

  • Job boards. The logical and quick answer to finding work at home jobs is, of course, online job boards. Many boards are geared especially toward writing/editing jobs, so look here regularly for new opportunities.

  • Big content sites. Large, content-driven sites are likely to have on-site contact and/or job information that’s always available. Write a letter, send a resume, fill out an online form; anything can happen.
Work at Home as an Editor

There’s more to being an editor that just checking pieces of content for proper spelling, punctuation and grammar- though this is all extremely important, of course. An online content editor must also be very knowledgeable on the topic of SEO, knowing how keywords are best used to bring in the most traffic. All Web sites seek content that’s optimized for the search engines, which means that editors who know the ins and outs of the business are highly sought-after.

In most cases, editors are responsible for certain sections of a Web site. Many content sites divide articles and blogs into topics, making the pieces much easier to access. It’s a good idea to have more than a cursory knowledge of the assigned topic. Being the editor in charge of content sections might also come with the responsibility of hiring writers, so know how to place ads and find applicants when and if needed. It requires a good deal of discipline and knowledge to work at home as an editor, but there are a lot of freelance jobs available in this field.
