Looking for home-based work? The professional services industry is always a good place to start. Find out how to freelance as a carpet cleaner.

Home-based work doesn’t always take place inside the professional’s own home - there are a lot of other homes out there, too. Looking for a way to make money with freelance jobs, becoming self employed and fiscally independent? Why not become a carpet cleaner, and potentially clean up financially?

Carpet Cleaning…as a Career?

Home-based services provide a lot of work opportunities for savvy freelancers who want to earn some dough. There are plenty of plumbers, electricians, tile specialists and floor installers who run businesses or even their own one-man operations by servicing homes, so why not try carpet cleaning as a career? Anyone who’s good with their hands and has some knowledge of flooring could potentially earn with this line of work.

How to Become a Carpet Cleaner

Sure, why not make money with this type of home-based work? Sometimes, just getting started can be the hardest part. So, what does it take to become a professional freelance carpet cleaner?

  • Carpet knowledge. Is it plush, or is it Berber? Level loop or cut and loop? These questions might stump the average Joe, but the average carpet cleaner will need to have some idea of how best to treat all types of carpeting - and there are many.

  • Stain removal. It’s best to have a few go-to methods of stain removal, as this will be the main reason individuals are hiring carpet cleaners in the first place.

  • Equipment. It would be pretty silly to clean carpets without the proper machinery, wouldn’t it? Be sure to have at least one or two trusted, reliable machines that can get the job done - and have backups for these pieces of equipment, too.

Finding Freelance Jobs

Any professional freelancer offering home-based services knows exactly who their target audience is: locals. Want to find jobs, make money, get started down this self employment path? Start by advertising close to home. Post flyers, take out a phone book listing, network among friends and family. The trick to success in any type of subcontracting job is in finding customers.

Once the jobs are found and the potential is there, it’s important to approach every task professionally. Want to make a living as a carpet cleaner? Establish rates at the outset, and bind clients to the job with all the proper paperwork. Use an organized invoicing system, and check back with clients to be sure they’re happy with the work. Remember, a satisfied customer is the best advertisement of all.
